Natural Remedies for Morning Sickness

Your miracle has arrived. The excitement of becoming a mother makes everyday seem brighter. You start to think and plan for the new arrival. You are walking on cloud nine. Enter morning sickness, the dreaded feeling of nausea that won’t go away, no matter what position you try. By the way, morning sickness is not limited to the morning. It can happen at any time throughout the day. My morning sickness started at 4pm and lasted throughout the night.
During one of my doctor visits, I asked my doctor what could be done to get rid of the nausea. She suggested taking 100mg of vitamin B-6. It is important to speak with your own doctor before starting any vitamin regimen outside of your pre-natal vitamins. Although it helped a little, the B-6 wasn’t doing enough to help.
I used to work with a nurse who had experience working in a maternity ward for several years and she told me to try York Peppermint Patties. At that moment, I was desperate, so I tried them. Surprisingly, they worked. The nausea was gone. However, there were times when the nausea was so intense that the thought of eating something sweet made me feel worse. Another concern of mine was eating all that sugar and the weight I was trying not to gain. I had to come up with another way to keep the nausea down, so I could function.
I wanted to find something that wouldn’t add any extra calories to my diet. It seems like everything you eat, when you’re pregnant,
goes straight to your thighs. I then got the bright idea of using peppermint tea, which worked really well. I feel like the heat from the tea also worked to help with the nausea. There was no worry about gaining weight either, because I could control what I put in the tea. I chose to drink it without adding sweeteners of any kind and it wasn’t too terrible to stomach.
Unfortunately, aside from the lucky few, morning sickness is part of the miracle of child bearing. Muddling through it was the only recourse I had. Thankfully, I found a few options and used some remedies out there that didn’t require a prescription.
